The project comprises the exhibition architecture for a series of large scale group exhibitions as ‘Infosphere’, ‘Exo-Evolution’ and ‘Allah’s Automata’ as part of the art event ‘Globale’ on a total exhibition area of over 8.300 sqm at ZKM Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe. The exhibition architecture provides an open and flexible modular system of wall elements, vitrines, video projection rooms and furniture pieces to form a light background for a large variety of artworks in different media such as video and screen projections, wall-based works, installations and objects. Designed as a timber frame structure, the elements provide a maximum of transparency allowing a simultaneous experience while reflecting the curator's intention for a polyphonic multilayered display and interactive network between the exhibits of various disciplines such as art, architecture, design, music, science and economics. The modular wall elements can be combined into groups of various shapes and sizes with polygonal rooms structuring the space and forming multiple spatial constellations reminiscent of molecular and cellular structures or stellar maps found in nature and science. The conventional and rather hermetic arrangement of a modernist ‘white cube’-ish exhibition space has been dissolved to stimulate a perception of the exhibition as a whole and to facilitate various visitor routes through the show instead of a predefined parcours. The transparent modular system reflects both, the generous and open ZKM architecture as well as the comprehensive, expanded concept of contemporary global art within the context of the yearlong art event ‘Globale’.
